Welcome to the Laurentian ski Museum |
The Laurentian Ski Museum as it exists today was created when two older museums merged: the original Laurentian Ski Museum (founded in 1982) and the Jackrabbit Museum (1992). Housed in its permanent premises in the heart of Saint-Sauveur since 2008, the new museum aims to preserve and promote our regional heritage. Its collection and activities focus on the history of skiing in the Laurentians and elsewhere in the country.
The story of skiing in the Laurentians truly reflects the history of this region and of the visionary men and women who were part of it. The museum’s rich collection of more than 1,500 artifacts and other items – along with the exhibits and Hall of Fame – serve to recognize the development and historical importance of skiing as it grew in popularity. The museum’s first exhibit, which runs until the end of October 2011, highlights the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance and provides an overview of more than a century of ski instruction. To date, more than 2,000 people have visited.
The year 2011 will be pivotal for the Laurentian Ski Museum. In addition to launching a major fundraising campaign, the museum team will create the first permanent exhibition and continue work on other initiatives: putting archives online, revamping the website, and overseeing the repair and renovation of facilities. We are proud to invite you to join us in this adventure and hope that many of you will visit our exhibits, support our fundraising campaign and participate in all our activities.
